HY Music was born from musicians devoted to shaping a sound uniquely their own.
The HY Forming & Clipping Set brings two essential stages of reed making into one considered setup. From shaping the blank to defining the final tip, each tool is developed to work within the same process—creating a more consistent, composed, and uninterrupted experience from forming to trimming.
Through years of playing and reed making, we searched for a forming pin stable, dependable, and lasting enough to bring greater consistency to every blank. Inspired by the time-honored Christlieb forming pin and shaped through conversations with professional bassoonists, we introduced laser-engraved alignment lines as a clear and reliable reference—allowing each bassoonist to preserve their own forming preference while maintaining a consistent blank width from one reed to the next.
We had long searched for a material that felt more stable and considered than traditional wood or acrylic racks. After repeated exploration, we turned to anodized metal—bringing a softer, more natural metallic character with lasting color, free from the fading of conventional painted finishes. Designed to fit HY Forming Pins precisely, the rack completes a smoother, more composed forming experience.
For reed trimming, we stayed with the widely favored rotary approach, refining a familiar system with longevity in mind. A hardened blade and anodized metal body bring durability and lasting character together, while precisely laser-engraved reference lines make each adjustment clearer and more controlled—creating a smoother, more considered trimming experience for bassoonists.
